Well, there is much to say about Black Metal. Different questions pop up as I watch all these corpse-painted , misanthropic, grim, nihilistic, evil, anti-religious (and the list goes on...) BM bands possessing the TRUE BLACK METAL. What is true anywhay and who is to tell so? If I know one thing that is that BM is minimal, violent and ugly by itself. No complicated riffs, no fancy bullshit.The music speaks for itself. Bathory and Hellhammer showed the road. Darkthrone and Mayhem walked it down. There are those who tried to copy these bands and failed to do so. There are others who tried to evolve BM and introduce elements that would appeal to more people. Of course they fell into deep shit. I got tired of hearing superficial BM songs having nothing to say and sounding like pigs' farts. The answer to TRUE BM is sticking to the basics. Not reproducing old-written stuff, but being inspired by all these great bands that created this annoying sound.

As for the BM image thing it's just ridiculous nowadays. What few did back in the days, because they felt so and expressed themselves that way, many abused it while they found another way to sell (more of) their records.

I really don't know if all this makes sense...but who cares...

I'm that close to start hating summer season. The weather is hot as hell, the majority of the people I know are away, I'm most of the time trapped into my house unable to drive away all the boredom and the misery...Sapila... (=a greek word describing the whole fucked up situation). The only thing that is left giving me strength to survive, is music. I am stuck with Red Dons, Insurgent Kid, Autistic Youth, Clorox Girls. Kick ass punk rock! Another cheering thing is that the last two weekends of July there will be held in Veria and Tirnavos two d.i.y. festivals with lots of bands. Black Trinity & Go Filth Go will be playing in that one in Veria but we will join the other one in Tirnavos too, just for relaxation. So, if you got nothing to do get off your ass and join the festivals. There will be free entrance, free camping and vegan food served every day!

One of these days I will post the new Machetazo 7". Stay dis-tuned.

Avskyvärld ("Disgusted by the World" or something like that) is a punk/hardcore band coming from northern Sweden, more specifically from Luleå (even northern of Umeå). I hadn't heard of them before and I must say that I should have had. Their style is the typical (but that's why we love it) swedish punk/hardcore accompanied with fast d-beat drums and teared-up vocals. Good 'ol swedish hc, folks. First of all! Does that picture remind you of anything?? If not, you are missing a big part of extreme music in general. Anyway. It has been long since I was (exclusively) into metal music, but the (dark) passion and love for good DEATH metal still remains (and it will always be). So, here we have a 4-way split (coming in double EP package!!)in which they feature: Execration, Diskord, Lobotomized and Obliteration (all of them) from Norway. Death metal to the bone in other words.Starting with Execration, I hadn't heard from them anything before, but listening to their song at this split I must say that their death metal smacks you in the face like a bat. You can feel the Autopsy-like atmosphere spreading like cancer as the song goes on. This is true DEATH metal my friends. Next are Obliteration. What a great band that too. I had the luck to watch them live at Inferno festival (Oslo, Norway). Their DEATH metal simply can't leave you unmoved. Although the Autopsy parts exist, Obliteration leave you a taste of punk/thrash that makes death (metal) even more violent. Moving forward we' re coming against Lobotomized. Fuck! This is sweet. 3 songs (2 of them are covers on Autopsy and The Mentors (!!) ) of pervert, old-school death metal! I won't say anything more, just listen. Lastly, we have Diskord, which I had watched them live too in Norway. Honestly, it's not my cup of tea. They've got some nice ideas and stuff, but these complicate-meets-disharmony riffs are getting on my nerves. I prefer it simple and raw. Despite this, it's worth of checking them out.

Chambre Froide stands for "cold room" in French. This is a tape that it was recently released and I recently got through a trade (thanks to D). From the time I pressed the "play" button, I understood that this isn't "just another" black metal release. Yeah, that's right. This is BLACK metal. Everything is here. Pessimistic melodies that constrict your neck like a noose, teared up vocals, up tempo rythms that are followed by excruciating, "typical" black metal drumming and slower riffs too, that compel you to feel (actually) the coldness that is spreading everywhere. I had a long time to hear something that it will take me back to an other (more darkened) era. If you dare come and join me.

Apokalyptic Raids - Only death is real

I had the pleasure to co-discover this band with my good friend A when we were checking Hells Headbangers catalogue around 3 years ago. Unfortunately I didn't purchase this little diamond due to lack of money, since I had ordered a load of other marvellous pieces. I know that I deserve to die and suck cocks eternally in hell. But...let me give you the ultimate enjoyment to take a small taste of this apokalyptic anthem. It takes only one moment to look at the cover and understand what you will face. Both the band's name and the title reveal the majesty of this release. This is the bastard son of Hellhammer with a touch of (true) brazilian 80's/90's death metal (you can easily understand it mostly from the violent/raw/sometimes "mis-played" drums). All the songs could be easily included in Hellhammers' 3 demos. No more words. Now I can go and torture myself till I bleed.

Zatiro/Dispara - Devastation

Well, to be honest I had never heard before of neither Zatiro (Chile) nor Dispara (US). Recently, I recieved an e-mail from Zatiro that was asking me to upload their split with Dispara. I thought that it would be nice to help them (my way) to spread their sound. So, getting the point, Zatiro play punk/hardcore having fast and mid-tempo (sometimes melodic, sometimes not) parts scattered in their songs. The only "bad" thing (in my opinion) is that vocals are too loud (according to other instruments) and as result the music is a little bit buried. Dispara now, play d-beat punk bringing to mind Besthoven. Nice guitar riffs with raw vocals draw your attention from the first song. A worth-hearing split that needs to be checked.

Damn these japaneses! They have been exporting great punk/hardcore/grind bands since forever. Among the brightest examples to give is Disgust (not to be confused with Disgust from UK, nice one too!). Undermankind is their first full-length that was released in 2001. Here we have an absolute grindcore-in your face-assault but mostly played in d-beat way (emphasizing more on the -core part than on the grind -) and not in the all-time classic "we-tear-your-ass-with-an-unstopable-blast-beat" way. The only "bad" thing in this record (in my opinion) is the frequent use of samples in many songs. Apart from this Undermankind has a lot to say, so you know...Move downwards!
