What is Black Metal, mom?

 Well, there is much to say about Black Metal. Different questions pop up as I watch all these corpse-painted , misanthropic, grim, nihilistic, evil, anti-religious (and the list goes on...) BM bands possessing the TRUE BLACK METAL. What is true anywhay and who is to tell so? If I know one thing that is that BM is  minimal, violent and ugly by itself. No complicated riffs, no fancy bullshit.The music speaks for itself. Bathory and Hellhammer showed the road. Darkthrone and Mayhem walked it down. There are those who tried to copy these bands and failed to do so. There are others who tried to evolve BM and introduce elements that would appeal to more people. Of course they fell into deep shit. I got tired of hearing superficial BM songs having nothing to say and sounding like pigs' farts. The answer to TRUE BM is sticking to the basics. Not  reproducing old-written stuff, but being inspired by all these great bands that created this annoying sound.

As for the BM image thing it's just ridiculous nowadays. What few did back in the days, because they  felt  so and expressed themselves that way, many abused it while they found another way to sell (more of) their records. 

I really don't know if all this makes sense...but who cares...

Machetazo - Desolación Mental 7"

As I had promised here it is the new, pure fucking grindcore, 7" of Machetazo. Their unique horror-grind is  for once more present and it's like a  hard kick in the nuts. Don't be fooled. This is NOT just another grindcore band. Play it LOUD.

The only con in this release is the artwork. I don't like it at all. I would prefer something more old-school and evil. Anyway...

Bla, bla, bla...

I'm that close to start hating summer season. The weather is hot as hell, the majority of the people I know are away, I'm most of the time trapped into my house unable to drive away all the boredom and the misery...Sapila... (=a greek word describing the whole fucked up situation). The only thing that is left giving me strength to survive, is music. I am stuck with Red Dons, Insurgent Kid, Autistic Youth, Clorox Girls. Kick ass punk rock! Another cheering thing is that the last two weekends of July there will be held in Veria and Tirnavos two d.i.y. festivals with lots of bands. Black Trinity & Go Filth Go will be playing in that one in Veria but we will join the other one in Tirnavos too, just for relaxation. So, if you got nothing to do get off your ass and join the festivals. There will be free entrance, free camping and vegan food served every day!

One of these days I will post the new Machetazo 7". Stay dis-tuned.

Aghast - Deformities LP

If someone listens to Aghast he would definetely say that they are a japanese band. I can't blame him but .. Aghast originate from US despite the fact that they play distorted crust d-beat/punk. Think about Framtid, Gloom and other similar noisy as fuck bands. Deformities is their first LP, released in 2007. REALLY BRUTAL!

Vatican Commandos - Hit Squad for God EP

As Moby will be visiting Greece in a couple of days, for no reason I was concieved by curiosity to learn more about his early past. So, I discovered that he was playing in a hardcore/punk band from Connecticut, U.S. , named Vatican Commandos. It was too good to be true, so I checked them immediately and in the end I was left wondering "...what da fuck...?". In this EP (which is their first one and was released in 1983) you will have the pleasure to hear 6 totally old-school hardcore tracks. I assure you, no bullshit fancy shit. This is true HC.

Dødheimsgard - Monumental Possession

The last time I had been listening to this release must have been before 6 years or so. The same excitement I felt then, the same I feel now as I'm listening to it. Monumental Possession is a fine example of how black metal MUST be. Fast drumming, sharp guitars, thrashy riffs in the vein of early Destruction, down tempo parts with a smell of Darkthrone...If you are into black metal, probably you will have already understood what I'm talking of. Swallow it.

Tormented - Rotten Death LP

Death metal freaks this one is for you. If you haven't got it yet, now is the time. Tormented arose from the cursed land of Sweden, this filthy piece is their first LP and they play (what else) old-school death metal in the vein of mighty Entombed. Don't even ask. Yes, the typical swedish-death-metal guitar riffs are everywhere in this LP. I think it's pointless to say anything more. January cold nights are ideal for listening to some good ol' death metal.

Stormcrow/Coffins LP

Both of the bands that take part in this split are among my favourites. Stormcrow continue to crush everything in their path having all the characteristics that made them well-known. These are: slow, darkened crust-as-fuck melodies followed by fast tempo parts "ala" Bolt Thrower. On the other side we have Coffins that infest your ears with their slow-coming death/doom. It's worth every minute of it. 

Listen to it loud. Listen to it somewhere solitary. Listen to it somewhere in the dark.
